Perez v Carroll
|
if neither Arnie or Hernandez are fit for Burnley - who starts up front?
i'd stick with Perez, missed a good chance but his link-up play was decent. Carroll was a bit of a liability when he came on.

Be better off starting with a sack of potatoes up top. Both offer very little at present.

Carroll managed to get himself 2 yellows in the space of 90 seconds at their gaff last season, would be tempted to leave him back in Chigwell

Carroll made me laugh with that swing and miss almost killing Romeu last night. For that, he gets the nod.

I think.this game would suit Carroll. They are scrapping for points, it aint gonna be pretty.

It will be nice to have either Hernandez or Arnautovic back but Burnley will absolutely try to bully you which edges me toward Carroll if neither of the other two can give minutes.

No way do you start Carroll against Burnley. Saw him playing like a moron up there and get sent off costing us the 3 points and no desire to see the same on Sunday. Lucky to stay on the pitch last night as well.
Perez is poor but at least he gets into the penalty area when we are attacking. Only time Carroll seems to get into the box these days is for a set piece.

At least Carroll had some impact on the game. He certainly occupies the opposition to some degree and he's handy once the ball starts getting launched into our box if the game's tight. And if ever there was a type of game that should suit AC, this has to be it.
Perez was fucking hopeless. It's one thing being shite, it's another not even putting in a shift. Didn't think I'd be saying this but if Arnie isn't fit and Zaba is, surely Antonio would be the best option ? AC can't play 90 minutes either way. Well, not without his leg falling off.

Mart i was gonna say just that re Antonio. Thought i'd get heaps of grief though so decided against. Would rather him up.front than Perez though.

You play to your strengths not those of the opposition.
Why on earth would we decide to throw our game plan and strengths of our best players to accommodate this myth that Carroll is deadly in the box? He can barely jump for the ball these days. He needs a run to get anywhere near the ball and that is easily defended against.

A match fit Carroll... Yes
But he isn't so best used from the bench for this one. Throw him in for cup game

I hear this "easy to defend against thing" a lot. Premiership defenders need to learn from you guys, I guess. Because they continue to mark and foul him.
That fact helped us see out the game last night and gave us freekick that led to a goal against Palace, at least.
He is not what he once was but with squad in the current state, he might be what we need in what will be a fight up north.

poke in the eye or poke up the arse....
Perez works harder so he just about gets the nod.
That said if Zab is fit, Antonio can lead the line.

If you want a clue to Carroll's current lack of fitness just watch the build up to Anderson's second Goal.
At that point Carroll had been on the pitch for just 4 minutes. He starts 2-3 yards back from Antonio in our box, by the time Antonio crosses to ball to Anderson Carroll is nowhere to be seen, in fact he the camera behind the goal shows him to be 40 or more yards behind.
You could make excuses like he just knew Anderson would score but, there is such a lack of desire in his running he either a) clearly does not give a shit or b) is catastrophically unfit.
Perez, on the other hand, is getting into goalscoring positions however, he seems very inconsistent. one dreadful miss and one half decent shot.
On balance I would play Perez in the next game, he seems to want it more. He showed against Cardiff he knows where the goal is and perhaps deserves another go.
Carroll should be sold in the window if at all possible

He could have covering the centre half position, Diop was up beside Anderson.
Not covering on their part was what gave us the chance in the first place.

the thing with AC is that the centre half knows what he will be facing. no chance will he run in behind so you can squeeze right up the pitch and feel comfortable. despite his glaring miss i thought Perez link up play was ok and he ran in behind a few times which stretches the game.
Perez suits our approach better, but Carroll might be more suited to play Burnley.

I would play neither and put Antio back up front....tells you all you need to know about both of them that Antonio was a bigger attacking than either playing right back than these two carthorses were playing centre forward
